FAQ

Everything you need to know about the PDF to Markdown.

Are headings detected automatically?

Yes — font size and weight are used to infer heading levels (H1, H2, H3).

Are tables converted?

Basic tables are converted to Markdown table syntax.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

No — text must be selectable in the PDF.

What is the file size limit?

Process files up to the browser memory limit.

Does my PDF data leave my computer?

No. The entire conversion runs locally in your browser. Your PDF is read from your local filesystem into browser memory, processed, and the Markdown is generated — all without a single network request. This makes it safe for classified documents, patient records, financial statements, and legal contracts.

What about scanned PDFs (image-based)?

This tool extracts the text layer from native (digital) PDFs. If your PDF is a scan without an OCR layer, no text will be extracted. In that case, use Refinata's OCR Extractor tool first to recognize text from images, then convert the output to Markdown manually or use our CSV/text tools for structuring.
