FAQ

Everything you need to know about the Visual PDF Diff.

How is this different from PDF Compare?

PDF Compare finds text changes. Visual Diff finds any pixel-level change including layout shifts and graphic changes.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Pages are rendered locally using PDF.js.

What is the file size limit?

Process files up to the browser memory limit.

What does the red overlay mean?

Red pixels exist in the first PDF but not the second. Green pixels are new in the second.

Can I compare specific pages?

Yes — select which pages to compare.

How accurate is the comparison?

The accuracy is limited by PDF rendering consistency. If the two PDFs use the same embedded fonts and the same PDF specification version, rendering is pixel-perfect and the diff is highly accurate. If fonts are substituted (one PDF embeds a font, the other does not), minor rendering differences may appear as false positives. Zoom in on any red area to inspect whether it represents a real change or a rendering artifact.

Can I compare PDFs with different page counts?

Yes. The tool compares pages one at a time, starting from page 1. Use the page navigation arrows to step through pages. When one PDF has more pages than the other, comparison stops at the last page of the shorter document. The total page count of each PDF is shown in the header.
